What We Check During a Survey

We start with your front door, which is the main entry point for the majority of break-ins. We check the lock type and condition, whether it has anti-snap protection, how the cylinder sits in relation to the door furniture, and whether the multipoint mechanism is functioning properly. We also look at the door frame for signs of weakness, the hinge security, and whether the letterbox could be used to reach the lock from inside.

Next, we move to the back door and any side doors. Rear doors are actually targeted more often than front doors because they are less visible to neighbours and passers-by. We check the same elements plus any cat flaps, doggy doors, or glazed panels that could be exploited. French doors and patio doors get special attention because their locking systems have specific vulnerabilities that many homeowners are not aware of.

Windows are checked throughout the property, with ground-floor and easily accessible first-floor windows being the priority. We look at the locking mechanism type, whether windows have key-operated locks, the condition of the hinges, and whether restrictors are fitted where needed. We also check that all windows can be opened from inside as fire escape routes.

Finally, we look at the broader picture. External lighting, side gate security, visibility from the street, and any other factors that affect your property's vulnerability.
